Christianity on Gender Transitioning

If you're okay with a woman getting her breast tissue reduced because it causes her a lot of pain and no bras are supportive enough, and you're okay with men having vasectomies once they no longer wish to bear children, and you're okay with people getting lasik surgery to improve their eyesight, why are you against gender surgeries and transitions? If top surgery is "mutilation", so is breast reduction. If vaginoplasties are "spitting in the face of God's creation", so are vasectomies. If using T is "playing God" because you're changing your body, so is lasik.

Gender transitioning is no different than any other surgical procedure-- it is done to improve the quality of your life, and in no way denies that God made you beautifully in His image. It is because, while God declares you to be beautifully and wonderfully made, physical dysfunction is a normal reality.

As another example, those who are disabled are still created perfectly. Their disability is neither their sin nor God's mistake; it is a condition given to their person and their life, with its challenges but also with its great benefits for them and the Kingdom. At the same time, it is foolishness to suggest that they never lessen the hardship that can come with their disability through surgery, because it will "mess with God's creation". Modern medicine is used by God, including through surgeries.

This concept can be applied beyond disability, back to the woman with the chest/back pain, and the man seeking a permanent contraceptive so his wife can stop worrying about her pill or toxic IUD, and the person seeking to see better. We all benefit from surgery in different ways, and for some, that may include gender surgery. How is it different?

Nick sank further into his chair as Max poured himself a drink. "That a problem?"

Max eyed the other man from the corner of his eye as the silence stretched between them. "Why would it be a problem?" he finally asked as he strode to his chair and slowly sat down. "She'd play the part well. And if you're as good of an agent as you claim to be, I'm sure you can come up with a reasonable explanation as to why you picked someone outside of the CIA to pose as your wife."

"I'm not talking about that," Nick said, tapping a finger on the armrest. "I mean, is it going to be a problem for you since she'll be alone with me."

Max chose not to respond as he brought his glass to his lips, choosing instead to look at the live feed on the laptop.

You were still asleep in bed, unaware of the men talking and watching you.

"Something wrong, Max?" Nick questioned, trying not to smirk when the darker haired man tore his gaze away from the screen.

"Nothing at all," he said after a beat. "Because wherever this assignment is I won't be far away."

"Think I'll double cross you? That's your thing."

"Yeah, but it's also your thing. You just happen to have a job title with what you do," Max said unapologetically. "My concern is her. She'll have to learn to trust you."

"And she'll have to learn to trust you all over again," Nick pointed out.

A hint of determination filled Max's blue eyes as he looked at the screen once more. "I earned it once. I can do it again."

i love the moment in s1 where sassy tells rebecca that while rupert may have built the tower she was isolated in, rebecca was the one who chose to climb those steps by herself. as someone who was in a similar relationship as rebecca had with rupert, i find that so strangely cathartic. yes, he was abusive. yes, i blame him for a lot haha. but i also chose to do a lot on my own, and i can't pin those things on him. every time i see that part, it's a good reminder to me that i need to still be accountable for my wrongs, not just focus on his. it's strangely empowering to be reminded to take accountability, own my part, and be better. ted lasso is just so great for so many reasons, and even the smallest lines find ways to nestle their way into my soul. i love rebecca's storyline, and it surprises me to see my similarities with her, but i'm excited to see where her journey continues to go. i hope we continue to grow together ◡̈
